Actor Shantanu Maheshwari faces ₹5 lakh loss due to online fraud

Bollywood and TV actor Shantanu Maheshwari discloses a ₹5 lakh online fraud. The renowned Gangubai Kathiawadi star reveals through Instagram Stories that an unauthorized card was created in his name. Subsequently, he discovered the fraudulent activity when attempting to settle a restaurant bill, realizing he had lost ₹5 lakh.

The fraudster conducted a transaction of approximately ₹5 lakh using my credit card. Dealing with the entire process was incredibly tiresome and draining. When faced with such fraud, it’s confusing on what steps to take. I repeatedly called customer service, but I was consistently put on hold. The cyber cell process is prolonged, requiring extensive information. Unfortunately, I didn’t possess the transaction ID they requested. Despite my efforts to contact customer care, they disconnected the call twice. It sometimes took up to 45 minutes, Mr. Maheshwari shared, recounting the experience to Zoom TV.

Unauthorized Card Generation: No Notification of Transactions or Phone Number Change, Mr. Maheshwari Reveals. Additionally, he became aware of another card created on his bank account without his knowledge. He received no alerts about the new card or any notifications about transactions or the alteration of his phone number. The anomaly came to light when he tried to settle a restaurant bill. While attempting to pay, my card indicated that I had surpassed the limit, an unusual occurrence for me, raising suspicions. Promptly checking my account, I discovered discrepancies and realized someone was making unauthorized transactions, exceeding the limit.
