According to a Times of India story, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra lost Rs 33.3 lakh to cricket shoe entrepreneur Kamlesh Parikh and his son Dhruv under the guise of using the funds for a sports shoe company.
After the former cricket player turned commentator lodged a complaint, a case was opened at the Agra local police station.
According to the case report, Dhruv received Rs 57.8 lakh from Chopra as investment for the firm. It was agreed that the money was to be returned to Chopra within 30 days, but after a year, less than half of the money was returned to him.
“Dhruv was required to repay the money within 30 days with a 20% profit, and post-dated checks were given for recovery, according to a legally notarized agreement we agreed up. But just Rs 24.5 lakh has been refunded after a year, and two issued checks were returned unpaid,” Chopra was cited in the article.
Speaking with Kamlesh, the primary culprit in the case, Chopra was informed that he would give the money to him on his son’s behalf. However, legal notices were sent when he did not receive the money. After the father and son severed their contact with Chopra, he lost Rs 33.3 lakh.
There have been previous instances where the Parikhs have been exposed as deceiving cricket players. Cricket player Deepak Chahar’s father had reported the pair for cheating in February.
The Indian fast bowler’s spouse, Jaya Bhardwaj, filed a complaint and opened a case against the pair after she claimed they had defrauded her of Rs 10 lakh while posing as a business partnership.
