88 kg Gold Bars and ₹80 Crore Watches Seized from Gujarat Flat

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) recently carried out a search operation in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on March 17, where they recovered 88 kilograms of gold bars and 19.66 kilograms of diamond-studded jewelry. The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) collaborated in the operation at a residential flat in the Paldi area. According to the Ministry of Finance, officials found that the gold bars, valued at approximately ₹80 crore, largely bear foreign markings, indicating their smuggling into India. Additionally, authorities recovered 11 luxury watches, including a Patek Philippe with diamonds, a Jacob & Co watch, and a Frank Muller timepiece. The seizure of these gold bars highlights the ongoing issue of gold smuggling, and the recovered gold and jewelry are a significant part of the operation’s success.

DRI Seizes ₹1.37 Crore Cash, Gold, and Luxury Items, Disrupts Illicit Activities

The operation also unearthed ₹1.37 crore in cash, with further valuations of the seized jewelry and watches still underway. The ministry emphasized that this operation is a significant blow to illicit activities and highlights DRI’s commitment to fighting economic crimes and protecting the nation’s sovereignty.

DRI Operation Follows Kannada Actor Ranya Rao’s Gold Smuggling Case

This operation follows the recent attention on Kannada actor Ranya Rao’s gold smuggling case. On March 3, DRI officials intercepted her at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport as she returned from Dubai, carrying 14 kilograms of gold bars worth ₹12.56 crore.

DRI and ICG Seize ₹33 Crore Worth of Hashish Oil in Joint Operation

In a separate operation on March 7, DRI, in collaboration with the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), seized 29.954 kg of Hashish Oil worth ₹33 crore from a vessel en route to the Maldives. The ICG intercepted the vessel off the Kanyakumari coast after receiving intelligence from DRI. The operation led to the arrest of several individuals involved in smuggling the drugs, including those responsible for loading the contraband and sharing the vessel’s location with the gang.
