Delhi Police arrested a fifth suspect on Thursday after seizing over 500kg of cocaine earlier this week. Marking the largest drug haul in the capital’s history, valued at approximately ₹5,000 crore.
Special Cell officers arrested Jitendra Pal Singh, also known as Jassi. At the Amritsar airport in Punjab as he attempted to escape to the UK. This arrest suggests a connection between organized crime in the UK and a nationwide network smuggling illegal drugs into India.
Authorities were tipped off about Singh’s. Escape attempt—he has been a ‘permanent resident’ in the UK. For 17 years—because they had issue a look-out circular (LOC) against him.

Singh, 40, an Indian citizen, had flown in from London to oversee the cartel’s activities in India. He attempted to return to the UK after police seized the drugs and arrested four individuals.
Authorities suspect that this drug syndicate, operating from Delhi and Mumbai, also has connections to Dubai. During the interrogation of suspects, the name of Virendra Basoya. An Indian citizen residing in the Middle East, has been note.
Basoya, whom authorities suspect may be a key figure or even the leader of the drug smuggling network. Was previously arreste in an unrelated case but managed to obtain bail.
Last year, police in Pune, Maharashtra, conducted raids in Delhi, seizing drugs valued at ₹3,000 crore. Including ‘meow meow,’ the street name for the synthetic stimulant mephedrone.
The raid occurred just a day after Basoya’s son married the daughter of a former MLA from Noida. Uttar Pradesh, at a lavish farmhouse near Delhi’s airport. After being alerte to the police action, Basoya fled to Dubai following the ceremony and now leads an international cartel.
Tushar Goyal, the other primary suspect in this case, is believe to be an old friend of Basoya. Authorities think Basoya recruited Goyal, offering him ₹3 crore for each of 100 deliveries. Basoya also sent Singh to India.
Upon arriving in the capital, Singh checked into a hotel in the Panchsheel. Area and met with Goyal before heading to Ghaziabad, UP, to collect the drugs. Additionally, Delhi Police have identifie a supplier in Mumbai who was set to contribute to this shipment.
Authorities seized 1.6 kg of cocaine worth over ₹25 crore at Delhi airport
Wednesday’s significant drug bust followed the arrest of two Afghan nationals on Sunday in Tilak Nagar, where authorities recovered approximately 400 grams of heroin and 160 grams of cocaine. This operation highlights ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region. On the same day as the Tilak Nagar arrests, authorities also seized 1.6 kg of cocaine valued at over ₹25 crore at Delhi airport. The drugs were found on a passenger arriving from Liberia, who has since been taken into custody. These recent actions underscore the commitment of law enforcement to dismantle drug networks operating in and around the national capital.
The timing of these arrests and seizures suggests a coordinated effort to disrupt the flow of illegal narcotics into India. With drug-related offenses on the rise, police are intensifying their operations and collaborations with international agencies to tackle smuggling routes and apprehend those involved.
The connection between the two cases may indicate a larger network at play, potentially linking local operatives to international drug trafficking syndicates. Authorities are continuing their investigations to uncover the full extent of these networks and their operations.
In June, police arreste a 70-year-old national from Cameroon for smuggling cocaine valued at ₹11 crore, which was found hidden within his body, according to officials. He has since been taken into custody.
