Zomato, a food delivery service, has started experimenting with a Rs 2 platform fee in a some markets. All users, including those signed up for the Zomato Gold loyalty program, are subject to the cost, which is assessed every order regardless of the value of the shopping cart. The platform cost is still being tested, and it is unclear if it will be made available to all users.
In a few markets, Zomato has instituted a small charge of Rs 2 every order. According to the business, the fee is intended to improve the user experience and explore other potential sources of earnings. However, the trial’s outcomes and customer feedback will determine whether this cost structure is put in place permanently.
The Reason Behind Zomato’s Platform Fee
The company received its first-ever consolidated profit of Rs 2 crore in the April-June quarter of this year. The total expenditures for the quarter, however, increased from Rs 1,768 crore to Rs 2,612 crore. This demonstrates that Zomato still needs to figure out how to cut costs if it wants to turn a long-term profit, according to Zee Business. On a recent earnings call, Zomato’s CFO, Akshant Goyal, stated that the firm has not made a decision regarding the implementation of platform fees. However, according to ET, it now seems that Zomato may begin charging customers a tiny price on a trial basis.
Actually, we were being conservative in our earlier projection and anticipated reaching this milestone in the September quarter (Q2FY24). According to Akshant Goyal, who was reported by Hindustan Times, “However, some key members of the team across our businesses out-executed our expectations/plans, and some of our initiatives delivered better outcomes than we had expected.”
