Zomato raises platform fee per order from ₹12.50 to ₹14.90

Zomato has once again increased the platform fee it charges users for food delivery orders. The company has raised the fee from ₹12.50 to ₹14.90 per order on a pre-GST basis, making it more expensive for customers to place orders through the app. This change directly impacts the overall cost that users pay for each order.

The company implemented this hike through its app, clearly reflecting the revised charges to users while placing orders. This marks another increase in platform fees, following a previous hike in September 2025. With repeated revisions, the company continues to adjust its pricing strategy in response to market conditions and operational costs.

Meanwhile, Swiggy, a major competitor, is currently charging a platform fee of ₹14.99 per order after including taxes. Both companies generally tend to align their pricing strategies over time, especially when it comes to additional charges like platform fees, indicating a closely competitive market environment.

Rapido Enters Food Delivery Market

At the same time, new competition is emerging in the food delivery sector. Rapido has recently entered the space with its food delivery service, Ownly, launched in Bengaluru. The company has stated that it will not impose any additional platform fees on customers or restaurants, apart from a standard delivery charge, which could attract price-sensitive users.

This move by Rapido could increase pressure on established players like Zomato and Swiggy, especially as customers have been increasingly vocal about the multiple charges added to their food orders. The entry of a player offering a simplified pricing structure may influence how existing companies structure their fees going forward.

Additionally, rising crude oil prices have contributed to increased operational costs in the delivery ecosystem. Higher fuel expenses affect delivery partners and logistics, prompting platforms to revise their fee structures. As a result, users are likely to see a higher final bill per order, even as competition in the sector continues to evolve.
