The United States sanctioned India based companies and three Indian nationals over Iranian petroleum trade. Washington launched Operation Economic Outcast to cut revenues allegedly financing Iran’s military and procurement activities.
The State Department announced these measures while targeting networks supporting Iran’s petroleum and petrochemical commerce. Officials identified Portease Partners LLP, Sadashiva Overseas Ltd, PP Softtech Pvt Ltd, and Prakrutees Infra. Washington also sanctioned Harish Ramchandra Rangi and Indrismiya Ashrafmiya Shekh, designated partners of Portease Partners. Authorities additionally targeted Prashant Garg, who is associated with PP Softtech, according to Washington’s announcement. Officials accused Portease Partners, a customs broker, of facilitating Iranian petrochemical products allegedly entering India.
Washington Targets India-Based Iran Trade Networks
The State Department said Portease knowingly supported transactions involving Iranian petrochemical products and commercial activities. Washington accused Sadashiva Overseas of importing Iranian petroleum products worth approximately sixty nine million dollars. Officials also alleged PP Softtech imported Iranian petroleum products valued at twenty five million dollars. The department accused Prakrutees Infra of importing Iranian petroleum products worth twenty five million dollars. Washington said these parties knowingly engaged in significant transactions involving Iranian petrochemical products from Iran. Such transactions included purchasing, acquiring, selling, transporting, or marketing petrochemical products from Iran, Washington said.
The latest designations formed part of the broader action targeting sixty individuals, entities, and vessels. The US Treasury Department imposed sanctions concurrently with the State Department’s designations against these targets. Earlier, Washington threatened penalties against countries continuing business with Iran, but delayed immediate enforcement measures. The broader campaign seeks to restrict Iran’s petroleum revenues and international commercial networks through sanctions. Meanwhile, the United States began returning personnel to several diplomatic missions across the Middle East. Reuters reported that Washington evacuated or reduced staffing at missions during heightened tensions with Iran. The personnel return suggests Washington sees lower escalation risks, although embassies will operate below capacity.
