Donald Trump criticized the fact that thousands of foreign students, including those from India and China, have to leave the US after graduating from top American universities. He made these remarks while unveiling the ‘Trump Gold Card,’ a new million-dollar visa program aimed at helping companies hire and retain high-skilled foreign talent. Speaking at a White House roundtable, Trump introduced the program, which provides a pathway to US citizenship for graduates and allows companies to employ and keep them in the country.

Donald Trump criticized the current immigration system, saying it’s shameful that top graduates from prestigious universities like Wharton, Harvard, and MIT have to return to their home countries after finishing their degrees. He added, “It’s ridiculous. We’re taking care of that.” Trump introduced the ‘Trump Gold Card,’ a new visa program that offers expedited US residency for individuals who pay a $15,000 processing fee and make a $1 million “gift” to the government. Companies can sponsor foreign employees through a corporate version of the card with a $2 million contribution. The program promises quick US residency and provides a path to citizenship after five years, given good conduct. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick emphasized that both individuals and companies will undergo thorough vetting to ensure only the most qualified applicants benefit.
Trump Launches Gold Card to Retain Top Foreign Talent
Trump, alongside IBM CEO Arvind Krishna and Dell CEO Michael Dell, introduced the Gold Card to address the issue faced by US tech companies in hiring top foreign graduates due to uncertain visa rules. The program allows companies to buy a card for employees, with an option to transfer it once the employee gains citizenship. It includes a 1% annual maintenance fee and a 5% transfer fee. Trump called it a major upgrade to the skilled-migration system, providing companies certainty while attracting global talent. The application process is open at trumpcard.gov, requiring a $15,000 processing fee, federal vetting, and a $1 million or $2 million contribution.
