Stock Market Outlook Today: Nifty 50 Strategy, Global Markets, Gold Prices; 8 Stocks to Track

Stock-market Today: Cautious Start Expected; Experts Flag 8 Stocks to Buy or Sell

The Indian stock market is likely to open marginally higher but cautious on Wednesday, supported by steady global cues and strong domestic fundamentals. However, thin holiday volumes ahead of Christmas may keep volatility in check and encourage consolidation rather than sharp directional moves. Market sentiment remains stable, with subdued volatility suggesting a pause phase rather than any distribution-driven correction.

Nifty 50 Outlook: Mildly Bullish Bias Intact

Commenting on the benchmark index, Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, said the Nifty 50 continues to trade within a healthy upward channel, comfortably holding above key moving averages. The index appears to be in a consolidation phase just below resistance levels following a strong rally.

Immediate support is seen near 26,100, backed by strong put open interest, while the 26,000–25,950 zone-aligned with the 20-day EMA—forms a crucial demand area. As long as the index sustains above 26,000 on a closing basis, the near-term outlook remains mildly bullish, favouring a buy-on-dips strategy. On the upside, the 26,200–26,300 range continues to act as a supply zone, and failure to break above it could extend sideways movement.

Bank Nifty Outlook: Range-Bound with Sector Rotation

On the banking index, analysts expect Bank Nifty to trade within a narrow range, reflecting slower momentum compared to the broader market. While the index remains above short-term supports, upside remains capped due to sustained call writing around the 59,400–59,500 zone.
Strong put support is visible near 59,000–59,100. A break below 59,200 could lead to a retest of lower supports, while a decisive close above 59,500 is required to revive bullish momentum. Sector-wise, PSU banks are lending stability, while private banks consolidate after recent outperformance, indicating rotation rather than weakness.

Global Markets Today

Asian equities advanced on Wednesday, closing a year marked by strong AI-led gains. Meanwhile, commodities such as gold and silver extended their record-breaking rally as 2025 nears its end.

While improved risk sentiment lifted equities, it weighed on bond prices. Japan’s Nikkei rose 0.4%, ending the year up 26%, while South Korea emerged as Asia’s top performer, surging nearly 72% in 2025.

Precious metals continued their sharp rally in early Asian trade. Spot gold rose 0.8% to a fresh all-time high of $4,524 per ounce, marking a 72% gain for the year. Silver climbed 1.2% to a record $72.27 per ounce, heading for its strongest annual performance ever with gains nearing 150%.
