Job Seeker Stampede at Mumbai Interviews

A huge crowd of job seeker turned up for a walk-in interview at Air India Airport Services Ltd in Mumbai’s Kalina on Tuesday, causing chaotic scenes. Videos of the crowd doing rounds on social media show thousands of people rushing towards the interview centre. Some people can also be seen climbing vehicles and trees to reach the centre faster.

Job Seeker Mismanagement Allegations Arise

George Abram, the general secretary of the Aviation Industry Employees Guild, described the recruitment process as “mismanaged,” according to India Today. Air India Airport Services had initiated walk-in interviews for 2,216 vacancies for handyman positions, responsible for various repairs and maintenance tasks, as well as for utility agents.

Recruitment Notice from AI Airport Services Ltd

In a notification dated June 28, AI Airport Services Ltd (formerly known as Air India Air Transport Services Limited) announced its intention to fill current vacancies and maintain a wait-list for future openings. The company invited applications from Indian Nationals (both male and female) who meet specified requirements for various posts at Mumbai international airport on a Fixed Term Contract basis of 3 years, renewable based on performance and operational needs of AI Airport Services Ltd. The number of vacancies provided is approximate and subject to change based on operational requirements.

AI Airport Services Ltd Promises Review of CVs

Despite facing challenges, the company has reportedly committed to reviewing all submitted CVs and contacting eligible candidates for the next steps in the hiring process.

This development follows closely after another incident in Bharuch, Gujarat, where a chemical firm, Thermax Company, organized a job interview for 10 vacant positions. The event drew hundreds of attendees, with a viral video capturing the crowd’s struggle to enter the interview venue.
