Harman Singh Kapoor, a Sikh restaurant owner in London, has appealed to customers for support as his latest food venture faces financial difficulties. On October 12, Kapoor shared a post on social media asking people to book tables and help save his restaurant, Singh’s Dining. He alleged that Google was accepting fake one-star reviews while rejecting genuine five-star ratings from satisfied customers. Kapoor claimed that the online reviews were damaging his business and discouraging potential diners from visiting. He also highlighted mounting rent arrears and warned that his landlord could initiate court proceedings. Kapoor described the restaurant as more than a business, calling it his passion, livelihood and the result of years of hard work. However, he did not provide independent evidence to support his allegations against Google’s review system.
From Rangrez’s Closure to Harman Singh’s Dining’s Struggle
Kapoor previously operated Rangrez, an Indian restaurant on Fulham Palace Road in Hammersmith, west London, for approximately 16 years. In February 2026, he announced plans to close the establishment, citing rising operating costs, online harassment, repeated disturbances and what he described as insufficient police support. The restaurant attracted widespread attention after Kapoor publicly promoted its non-halal identity. A sign outside the establishment declared, “Proudly, we don’t sell Halal.” Kapoor linked the decision to his Sikh faith and preference for jhatka meat, which involves slaughtering an animal with one swift strike. Some members of the Sikh community consider this method religiously permissible. However, the controversy extended beyond food choices, as Kapoor’s social media statements about Muslims and calls to ban halal slaughter in Britain attracted criticism. Rangrez eventually shut down, leaving Kapoor to pursue another restaurant venture.
The controversy surrounding Kapoor also led to a confrontation in March, when he promoted an event he called a “Non-Halal meetup.” He encouraged supporters to bring recording equipment to document possible disturbances. A confrontation followed, and police detained him. Kapoor later alleged that officers had unlawfully arrested him and held him for nearly 24 hours. In May, he announced plans to take legal action against the Metropolitan Police and London Mayor Sadiq Khan, alleging discriminatory treatment. His latest appeal focuses on keeping Singh’s Dining operational despite financial and reputational pressures.

Religious Controversy, Police Dispute and a Fresh Appeal
Kapoor has urged supporters to book tables, visit the restaurant and share his message online. He said he wanted the establishment to continue serving its community as a non-halal restaurant for years. He also asked people unable to visit to spread the appeal among friends and family, stressing that every booking and share could help the business survive.
Kapoor’s claims about online reviews remain unverified, and the available information does not establish that Google selectively rejected positive feedback. As of October 13, Singh’s Dining reportedly held a rating of 2.8 out of five stars based on 20 ratings, with the latest review appearing three weeks earlier. The restaurant’s online review history also drew attention to the management’s responses to customers. According to the report, some replies appeared curt and included personal remarks rather than constructive responses to criticism. These exchanges could further affect public perceptions of the business at a time when Kapoor is seeking customer support. The restaurant now faces the combined challenges of rent pressure, a disputed online reputation and lingering controversy over its non-halal identity. Whether Kapoor can attract enough bookings to stabilise the business remains uncertain, while his allegations about review moderation require independent verification.
