Pawar Family Connection Puts BJP’s Arun Lakhani in Spotlight

Nagpur-based industrialist and BJP leader Arun Lakhani has come into the spotlight after the BJP nominated him from the Wardha-Chandrapur-Gadchiroli Local Authorities constituency for the June 18 Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) elections. A senior office-bearer in the Maharashtra BJP, Lakhani shares close ties with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. His candidature has attracted attention not only for his political connections but also because his son, Sarang Lakhani, is engaged to NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule’s daughter, Revati.

Social Work, Pawar Family Connection Add to Public Interest

Lakhani’s nomination has generated debate as he does not belong to any of the three districts that form the constituency. Traditionally, leaders with strong local roots in Wardha, Chandrapur, or Gadchiroli have represented the seat. Despite this, BJP leaders view Lakhani as a trusted party figure due to his long association with the organisation, his role as the party’s co-treasurer in Maharashtra, and his contributions to infrastructure development and social initiatives across the Vidarbha region.

Born in Malkapur in Buldhana district, Lakhani studied petrochemical engineering before building a successful business career. He currently serves as Chairman and Managing Director of Vishvaraj Infrastructure Ltd, a company involved in water supply, wastewater treatment, and road projects. He gained recognition for leading the Nagpur 24×7 water supply project, one of India’s earliest large-scale public-private partnership initiatives aimed at providing continuous municipal water supply.

Beyond business, Lakhani actively supports social and educational causes. He heads the Laxmanrao Mankar Trust, which operates more than 500 single-teacher schools in tribal areas of Vidarbha, and serves as president of the Maharashtra Badminton Association. Following his nomination, he revealed that Supriya Sule congratulated him and emphasized that political affiliations and personal relationships should remain separate. Lakhani also dismissed criticism regarding his connection to the constituency, stating that his extensive work through the trust has allowed him to travel widely and maintain strong links with Wardha, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli.
