Customers at a Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch in Greater Noida have alleged that nearly ₹35 crore disappeared from their savings accounts and fixed deposits without their knowledge. The complaints have triggered concerns among account holders who say they received no SMS alerts about the suspected transactions. On Wednesday, several customers gathered outside the branch and demanded clear answers from bank officials. Members of a farmers’ union also staged a sit-in, seeking the recovery of the missing funds and strict action against those responsible. Police personnel reached the location to maintain order as the bank began an internal inquiry. The incident has raised questions about account security, transaction monitoring and the safeguards available to customers. Meanwhile, affected account holders continue to seek details about their balances and the alleged unauthorised transfers.

Account Holders Report Major Financial Losses
Several customers have shared details of the alleged irregularities with the news agency PTI. Vijendra Singh claimed that his account balance had dropped from approximately ₹87–88 lakh to just ₹1 lakh. Another customer, Haneef Khan, alleged that ₹39 lakh had disappeared from his savings account without his approval. Khan said he had neither received a transaction alert nor signed any document authorising the transfer. Similarly, another account holder named Zakir claimed that ₹9.5 lakh had gone missing from his account. He said he discovered the suspected irregularities after visiting the bank. Customers have also alleged that the transactions affected both savings accounts and fixed deposits. Some account holders claimed that the bank closed their fixed deposits prematurely or transferred money to other accounts without their consent.
Account holders have also raised concerns about difficulties in obtaining transaction details and updating their passbooks. According to their allegations, bank staff cited an ongoing Reserve Bank of India (RBI) audit when customers sought information about their accounts. Some customers believe these repeated delays prevented them from identifying the suspected irregularities earlier. The complaints have intensified concerns among depositors who want to understand when and how the alleged transactions occurred. Customers are demanding complete account statements, clear explanations and prompt action from the bank. Meanwhile, police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against PNB employees following a complaint by Shrichand, a resident of Birondi. According to the latest report, 18 customers have submitted written complaints to the police. Investigators may transfer the case to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) to examine the financial transactions and determine the extent of the alleged wrongdoing.

Five PNB Employees Suspended as Investigations Continue
PNB management has suspended five employees, including the branch manager, following the complaints from account holders. The bank has also replaced the branch staff and initiated an internal investigation into the alleged financial irregularities. Officials have assured customers that they will address their grievances and make efforts to recover the missing money. However, the bank has not officially confirmed the total amount involved or the number of affected account holders. The reported figure of nearly ₹35 crore currently reflects allegations made by customers, and investigators must establish the final amount through their inquiries. Police are examining how the suspected transfers occurred, whether anyone authorised the transactions and who may have been responsible. The bank’s anti-corruption team is also investigating the matter. Authorities will need to review transaction records, account documents and other evidence before reaching conclusions about the alleged fraud.
The alleged PNB fraud in Greater Noida has left customers seeking answers about the security of their savings and fixed deposits. Many account holders want the bank to explain why they allegedly received no transaction alerts and why they struggled to obtain account information. Their immediate priority remains recovering the money and understanding the circumstances behind the suspected transfers. The police investigation and the bank’s internal inquiry could help establish the sequence of events and identify any individuals responsible. Customers have also called for accountability and stronger safeguards to prevent similar incidents in the future. Until investigators verify the complaints, the reported losses and allegations against employees remain subject to investigation. The findings will determine the scale of the suspected financial irregularities and the next steps for the bank and law enforcement agencies.
