External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the importance of BRICS in promoting a multipolar world during a meeting with his counterparts from the group. The meeting occurred on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. Jaishankar highlighted the growing role of BRICS in ensuring global diversity and fostering a more balanced world order. He took to social media platform X to reaffirm BRICS’ significance in advancing multi-polarity on the global stage.

The BRICS bloc, originally consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, recently expanded at the beginning of this year to include several new members: Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). BRICS Ministers Call for Global Governance Reforms
The meeting on Thursday was chaired by Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira. During the discussions, the BRICS ministers reaffirmed their shared commitment to multilateralism and the need for reforms in global governance institutions to better reflect the interests and aspirations of developing countries. The inclusion of new members further strengthens BRICS’ collective voice in advocating for equitable economic development and sustainable growth.
