Thalapathy Vijay Nearly Left Films After Early Criticism

Born as Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar on June 22, 1974, in Chennai, Vijay grew up in a family closely connected to the film industry. His father, S.A. Chandrasekhar, established himself as a successful filmmaker, while his mother, Shoba Chandrasekhar, worked as a singer, writer, and producer. Vijay entered the entertainment world at a young age and appeared as a child artist in several films. These early experiences helped him understand filmmaking and acting from behind the scenes. However, his transition to a leading actor came with significant obstacles.

Vijay made his debut as a lead actor with Naalaya Theerpu in 1992. Unfortunately, the film and several of his early projects failed to perform well at the box office. Critics frequently targeted his looks, voice, and acting style, while some publications questioned whether he possessed the qualities of a conventional hero. The constant criticism affected Vijay deeply and made him doubt his future in cinema. At one stage, he seriously considered quitting acting and moving away from the industry altogether.
