Subsidy Supports Families Dependent on Tamil Film Production

Producer T Siva of Amma Creations welcomed the government’s decision and thanked Chief Minister Vijay and Minister Rajmohan Arumugam. He shared his appreciation through a post on social media platform X. Siva described the subsidy release as a Diwali gift for people associated with Tamil cinema. He said the government had cleared approximately ₹16 crore in assistance for 224 films. According to him, the financial support would bring fresh hope to producers who struggled financially. Siva also appreciated Minister Rajmohan’s efforts in ensuring the release of pending funds. He highlighted the importance of timely assistance for people whose livelihoods depend on film production. The producer expressed gratitude on behalf of beneficiaries and their families. His statement reflected the industry’s positive response to the government’s financial intervention.

T Siva emphasised that the assistance would benefit families facing financial hardships. He reportedly said nearly 90 per cent of beneficiaries had lost their livelihoods through film production. The subsidy could help them recover financially and restart their professional activities. Many small producers struggle to secure funding and complete their projects. Delayed payments often create additional pressure on producers and their families. The government hopes this assistance will provide stability to those affected. Siva described the initiative as more than financial support. He called it an opportunity for families to rebuild their lives. The announcement also highlighted the economic importance of Tamil cinema. Producers, technicians and several other professionals depend on filmmaking for their income. Financial assistance can help sustain these interconnected livelihoods.

Selection Committee Recommended Films Produced Between 2015 and 2022

Minister Rajmohan Arumugam distributed the subsidy cheques during the Chepauk programme. The government selected films produced between 2015 and 2022 for financial assistance. A committee headed by retired Justice SK Krishnan recommended the eligible beneficiaries. According to an ETV Bharat report, the committee evaluated films before recommending producers. Amma Creations producer T Siva also welcomed the government’s commitment towards supporting smaller filmmakers. His production house backed films including Deiva Vaakku, Aravindhan, Saroja and Aravaan. The subsidy scheme seeks to encourage low-budget Tamil films, particularly those exploring socially relevant themes. Officials believe such assistance can help filmmakers pursue meaningful storytelling. The initiative also recognises the difficulties smaller producers face in sustaining their projects.

During the event, Minister Rajmohan reportedly highlighted cinema’s role in addressing social issues. He cited Bharathiraja’s 1994 film Karuththamma as an example of meaningful storytelling. The film raised awareness about female infanticide and challenged harmful social practices. Rajmohan praised producers who balance commercial success with socially relevant narratives. He also stated that Tamil cinema awards would follow merit and honesty. The minister stressed that authorities would recognise deserving filmmakers without compromising fairness. The government’s subsidy announcement has renewed discussions about supporting independent and low-budget cinema. Industry members hope timely assistance will strengthen Tamil filmmaking. The Diwali announcement offered financial relief to 224 producers and their families. It also reaffirmed the importance of supporting meaningful films and sustainable livelihoods across the industry.
