Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film King is creating massive buzz even before reaching theatres. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the action entertainer has reportedly earned Rs 665 crore through pre-release business. According to Sacnilk, the film has secured impressive deals across multiple distribution platforms. These include domestic and international theatrical rights, digital streaming, satellite television and music rights. The reported earnings have made King one of the biggest pre-release business stories in recent Hindi cinema. The film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on December 24, 2026. Meanwhile, its promotional campaign has already generated considerable excitement among fans. Shah Rukh recently unveiled the film’s first song on November 2. The announcement coincided with his birthday celebrations. The project also marks his return to cinemas after more than three years.
Overseas Distribution Deal Sets New Benchmark
The overseas theatrical distribution deal accounts for a significant portion of King’s reported earnings. Phars Films has reportedly acquired the international distribution rights for a minimum guarantee of Rs 175 crore. Interestingly, this deal is being described as the biggest overseas minimum guarantee for an Indian film. Earlier deals reportedly remained below the Rs 100 crore mark. Meanwhile, the domestic theatrical rights have also attracted a massive deal. According to Pinkvilla, Pen Marudhar has acquired the Indian theatrical distribution rights for Rs 250 crore. Together, these agreements contribute Rs 425 crore to the film’s reported pre-release business. The figures highlight the enormous commercial expectations surrounding Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming project. They also demonstrate the strong market confidence surrounding the actor’s latest collaboration with Siddharth Anand.
Apart from theatrical distribution, the film has secured impressive deals across non-theatrical platforms. Netflix has reportedly purchased the digital streaming rights for Rs 150 crore. Additionally, the satellite television rights have fetched Rs 25 crore. The music rights have reportedly been sold for another Rs 65 crore. These agreements take the film’s reported pre-release earnings to Rs 665 crore. However, the Netflix agreement reportedly includes an interesting condition. It features a theatrical performance rider linked to the film’s box-office performance. This means the final value of the streaming deal could change depending on its theatrical results. Consequently, the film’s overall digital rights valuation may depend partly on audience response. Nevertheless, the reported agreements have already generated considerable attention across the entertainment industry.

Production Budget Reportedly Reaches Rs 400 Crore
While the pre-release earnings look impressive, the film’s production budget has also increased significantly. King was initially planned with an estimated budget of around Rs 200 crore. However, reports suggest that production expenses have now reached nearly Rs 400 crore. This amount reportedly includes director Siddharth Anand’s remuneration but excludes Shah Rukh Khan’s acting fee. After including the superstar’s notional remuneration, the overall cost could reach approximately Rs 500 crore. Additionally, the makers are expected to spend another Rs 40 crore on publicity and release-related expenses. This could take the film’s total financial commitment to nearly Rs 540 crore. Therefore, despite its impressive pre-release business, the film will still face substantial box-office expectations. Its theatrical performance will remain important for determining its overall commercial success.
King brings Shah Rukh Khan and director Siddharth Anand together again after their blockbuster collaboration Pathaan in 2023. However, this project carries additional significance for the superstar. It marks his first on-screen collaboration with daughter Suhana Khan. The film also features Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji and Abhishek Bachchan in important roles. The combination of established stars and a fresh father-daughter pairing has increased audience curiosity. Meanwhile, the makers have started building excitement through promotional material and music releases. With its December 24 release date approaching, expectations are steadily rising. The reported Rs 665 crore pre-release business has already given the project a strong commercial foundation. Now, all eyes will be on its theatrical performance and audience response.
