Shah Rukh Khan Becomes The Highest Tax Paying Celebrity

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has emerged as India’s top celebrity taxpayer for the financial year 2024. As reported by Fortune India, Khan paid an impressive ₹92 crore in taxes, claiming the top position. Tamil actor Vijay follows with a contribution of ₹80 crore, and Salman Khan is in third place with ₹75 crore. Notably, Akshay Kumar, who was last year’s highest taxpayer from Bollywood, does not appear on the list this year.

Notable Tax Contributions and Surprising Omissions in India’s Celebrity Taxpayer List

In the latest update on India’s top celebrity taxpayers for 2024, Salman Khan is succeeded by megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who paid ₹71 crore in taxes, securing the fourth position. Cricketer Virat Kohli ranks fifth with ₹66 crore, while Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn occupies the sixth spot with ₹42 crore. Former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni follows in seventh place with ₹38 crore, and actor Ranbir Kapoor is eighth with ₹36 crore. Rounding out the top ten are Hrithik Roshan and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, both contributing ₹28 crore each.

The top 20 list includes several other notable figures: comedian and TV host Kapil Sharma with ₹26 crore, Sourav Ganguly with ₹23 crore, Kareena Kapoor Khan with ₹20 crore, Shahid Kapoor with ₹14 crore, and cricketer Hardik Pandya with ₹13 crore. South Indian stars Mohanlal and Allu Arjun each contributed ₹14 crore, while Bollywood stars Pankaj Tripathi and Katrina Kaif both paid ₹11 crore.

Akshay Kumar is not on the list

Interestingly, Akshay Kumar, who was India’s highest taxpayer in 2022, is absent from this year’s list. Kumar had previously paid ₹29.5 crore in taxes and received the Samman Patra honor certificate from the Income Tax department. His absence may be attributed to a challenging year with several film flops, unlike Shah Rukh Khan, who enjoyed a stellar 2023 with major hits such as Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki. Jawan led the box office with ₹643.87 crore in domestic earnings, Pathaan followed with ₹543.05 crore, and Dunki added ₹212.42 crore, highlighting Khan’s exceptional year.
