Rahul Bose recently commented on the phenomenon of ‘star culture’ amidst the rise of OTT platforms in the film industry. Acclaimed for his performance in the political-thriller ‘Berlin’ at film festivals, the actor recently addressed the topic of celebrity culture. During an interview with Times Now, Bose responded to questions about Kangana Ranaut’s statement, in which she referred to Shah Rukh Khan and herself as the ‘last generation of superstars’.

When questioned about whether the rise of OTT platforms has reduced the significance of star culture, Rahul Bose expressed that audiences are indifferent to the quality of acting by stars. He stated, You don’t care whether they’re portraying a rural character or an industrialist. You simply want to watch them. You don’t mind if they’re depicting a cricketer or an aeronautical scientist. You’re just eager to see them. Their acting proficiency is irrelevant. You’re solely interested in seeing them.

Rahul Bose emphasizes the power of charisma in an actor, describing it as the quality that makes audiences feel connected and even believe in a spiritual connection from past lives. Bose notes that while some highly skilled actors lack charisma, they may struggle to succeed, whereas others with abundant charisma can thrive despite limited acting abilities. He underscores the visual nature of cinema, where charisma plays a crucial role. Bose concludes by highlighting iconic figures like Madhubala and contemporary superstars as epitomes of hyper-charismatic individuals who will always hold immense star power.
