Aamir Khan’s film Lapata Ladies has been eliminated from the race for the 97th Academy Awards in 2025. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) announced on Wednesday that the film, which was one of India’s most acclaimed in 2024, failed to secure a spot in the final shortlist of 15 films. This news has left Indian fans slightly disappointed.
While Lapata Ladies missed out on the Oscars, the film Santosh, directed by British-Indian filmmaker Sandhya, successfully made it to the top 15.

Oscar award ceremony will be held on March 2
The film ‘Lapata Ladies’ was sent for the award in the foreign category. On September 23, the Film Federation of India had announced to send it to Oscars 2025. The nominations for the Oscar Award will be announced on January 17. At the same time, the Oscar Award Ceremony will be held on March 2. Winners will be announced in this.
Till now, 3 films ‘Mother India’, ‘Salaam Bombay’ and ‘Lagaan’ have been nominated from India in the foreign film category of Oscar, but no one could get the award. After the nomination of ‘Missing Ladies’, people thought that this time the award will come home, but this time too the hopes were dashed.

About the missing ladies, let us tell you that its story is based on a fictional state named Nirmal Pradesh in 2001, where two brides get involved in a train and one is taken away by the other groom. It gets left at one station only. After this a police officer handles the case and then both the girls go to their respective places. Directed by Kiran, this film was produced by Aamir Khan. Nitanshi Goyals, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Srivastava, Ravi Kishan are in important roles in the film.
