Sunjay Kapur’s children, Samaira (20) and Kiaan (15), filed a petition in Delhi High Court claiming rights to his ₹30,000‑crore family estate. They named his mother, Rani Kapur, and his surviving wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, as respondents in the case. The siblings challenged a will dated March 21, which leaves the entire personal estate to Priya. They alleged that neither Sunjay nor any close person ever mentioned such a will existed. Through their lawyer, they argued that the will must be fabricated—Priya’s conduct, according to them, “without a doubt” suggests forgery. Their petition questions Priya’s outright control and urges the court to examine the legitimacy of the March 21 will.

Priya Seeks Sympathy,Highlights Grief and Role as Sunjay’s Last Wife
Priya Sachdev Kapur’s lawyers defended her fiercely during Wednesday’s hearing before Justice Jyoti Singh. They asserted that the children already received substantial assets from the family trust just days before filing the case, noting the Rani Kapur Trust’s involvement. The defense argued that this settlement undermines the children’s claims constituting fair inheritance via trust distributions. They further maintained that although the will remains unregistered, such lack of registration does not invalidate its authenticity. Senior advocates Rajiv Nayar and Shyel Trehan emphasized Priya’s legal standing as Sunjay’s final wife and contested the suitability of the children’s petition.
Priya’s legal team characterized Karisma’s children’s accusations as lacking perspective and empathy. They stated, “I am a widow. I was his last lawfully wedded wife. Where were you?” The counsel criticized the children’s changing tone, emphasizing that the earlier transfer of assets should settle the dispute. They implored the court to consider her six‑year‑old child and the grieving state she endured. Priya’s side urged compassion for Sunjay’s memory, reminding the court that Priya struggled alone while Karisma remained absent for the past fifteen years.

I Have Nothing at 80’: Sunjay’s Mother Challenges Will in Court
Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, voiced raw grief and outrage over the will in open court. She asked, “My son leaves me without a roof? I am eighty years old, and I have nothing.” Rani recounted sending at least fifteen emails asking for will details, to which she received no response. The emails, she said, were allegedly “compromised.” She became emotional alleging that wealth worth ₹10,000 crore should belong to her. Rani proclaimed that there is “something incredibly unholy” about how the will suddenly appeared and her being excluded.
Justice Jyoti Singh responded by registering the children’s complaint and issuing a notice to Priya Sachdev Kapur. The court ordered Priya to submit comprehensive replies and a detailed list of movable and immovable assets as of June 12, the date of Sunjay’s death. The judge posted the matter for further hearing on October 9. At this stage, the court will evaluate the children’s petition, examine Priya’s disclosures, and determine the validity of the contested will based on factual submissions.
