Don 3 Row: Ranveer Singh Files Suit Against Film Association

Don 3 has become the centre of a major industry controversy after actor Ranveer Singh sent a legal notice to the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) over its non-cooperation directive against him. The move comes more than a week after the film body announced action against the actor amid its dispute with Excel Entertainment, led by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. FWICE chief advisor Ashoke Pandit confirmed receipt of the notice and said the federation would address the matter at a fresh press conference in Mumbai.

Ranveer Singh sends legal notice to FWICE

FWICE issued the non-cooperation directive after receiving a complaint linked to the actor’s conduct during the dispute. The federation claimed Singh had declined repeated attempts to discuss the matter and stated that its members would not work on any of his projects. In response, Singh maintained a public silence and emphasized his respect for the film fraternity and the Don franchise. He said professional disagreements should remain private and that both sides should resolve them with dignity and mutual respect instead of public exchanges.

The controversy dates back to August 2023, when the makers announced Singh as the new lead in Don 3, replacing Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan in the iconic franchise. The announcement generated excitement, but production delays and the lack of major updates soon fueled speculation. Reports later pointed to disagreements over the film’s script, creative direction and repeated postponements. Industry insiders also claimed that the makers explored alternative casting options even as Singh continued to remain publicly associated with the project.

The dispute eventually expanded beyond creative differences. Reports claimed that Excel Entertainment sought compensation of ₹40–45 crore for losses incurred during the film’s development. According to Ashoke Pandit, the producers approached FWICE after investing heavily in pre-production activities and engaging Singh in script discussions and promotional campaigns. As legal and industry tensions continue to rise, Don 3 remains stalled, with uncertainty surrounding the future of one of Bollywood’s most anticipated projects.
