Gadchiroli had coal and iron ore reserves, but lack of railway connectivity stopped it from becoming an industrial hub like Jamshedpur, said Tata Steel VP DB Sundara Ramam.
Ramam said Dorabji Tata, along with an American geologist, surveyed Gadchiroli and Chandrapur and found rich mineral deposits.
He had urged the British government to build railway lines to promote industrial growth in the region.

Ramam said Gadchiroli had industrial potential long ago and added that Tata Steel has signed MoUs with Lloyds Metals and Energy.
He said high-grade iron ore from Gadchiroli’s 6,000+ hectares of mineral land will help India reach 300 million tonnes steel capacity.
Executives said mineral reserves, infrastructure growth, and support from Devendra Fadnavis and Nitin Gadkari are boosting investor confidence in the district.
