Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, has officially appoints astrologer Radhan Pandit Vetrivel as the Chief Minister’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD). The move has drawn attention because of Vetrivel’s long-standing association with political astrology and numerology in Tamil Nadu. His appointment signals the party’s trust in his guidance and influence within political circles.

Born as Vetrivel in Erode, the astrologer earlier worked closely with former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. He reportedly advised her during crucial political phases and became one of the well-known astrologers in the state. However, their relationship reportedly weakened after one of his major predictions failed. The incident later became a widely discussed topic in Tamil Nadu political circles.

Vijay’s latest Appoints revives debate around astrology in politics

Vetrivel had reportedly assured Jayalalithaa that she would avoid imprisonment in the disproportionate assets case. However, the court sentenced her to jail in September 2014, creating a major setback for the astrologer’s credibility. Following the verdict, Jayalalithaa reportedly ended her association with him. Soon after, Vetrivel shifted his base to Singapore and stayed away from Tamil Nadu’s political spotlight for some time.

During his stay abroad, Vetrivel transformed both his public image and professional identity. He adopted the name “Radhan Pandit Vetrivel,” giving himself a broader national appeal with a North Indian-style identity. Though he remained rooted in Tamil Nadu, he spent time in Singapore and later Delhi to expand his reach among Indian diaspora clients. Sources say this reinvention combined astrological beliefs with ambitions for wider recognition.

Astrology and numerology have always played a quiet but influential role in Tamil Nadu politics, with many leaders consulting astrologers privately. However, Radhan Pandit Vetrivel’s appointment by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam marks a rare public acknowledgment of that connection. Political observers believe the move reflects Vijay’s confidence in trusted advisers as he strengthens his party structure ahead of future political challenges.
