On Tuesday afternoon, a 16-year-old boy was feared drowned in the Nira River in Indapur taluka, Pune, after he entered the water for the immersion of a Ganesh idol during Anant Chaturdashi.
The police have identified the missing teenager as Aniket Vinayak Kulkarni, a resident of Dharashiv district in Maharashtra and a student at a local school specializing in Vedic and religious scriptures.
The incident occurred around 3 PM on Tuesday in Nira Narsingpur village of Indapur taluka, approximately 180 kilometers from Pune City, according to officials.
An officer from Indapur police station stated that students from the school went to the banks of the Nira River to immerse the idol they had placed at their school.

Ganesh Immersion Tragedy Search Underway in Pune
After some students entered the water, Kulkarni began to drown. “We have initiated a search for the boy with the assistance of a team from the district administration and local residents. The boy’s family has been notified,” the officer stated.
On September 12, a 45-year-old man and his 21-year-old son drowned in a water-filled quarry in Maval taluka, Pune, while attempting to immerse a Ganesh idol.
The incident occurred in Kadadhe village, Maval taluka, about 48 km from Pune city.
