Supreme Court Grants Bail To 2 In Moose Wala Murder Case

The Supreme Court on Thursday granted bail to two accused linked to the 2022 murder of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, offering relief to Pawan Bishnoi and Jagtar Singh after they spent several years in custody in connection with the high-profile case.

A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta passed the order after hearing arguments presented by lawyers representing both accused. The court considered the length of their detention and the nature of the evidence presented so far while deciding to grant bail. Investigators alleged that Pawan Bishnoi arranged a Bolero vehicle that the attackers reportedly used during the shooting that killed Sidhu Moose Wala. Authorities claim he arranged the vehicle at the direction of Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar, whom investigators consider the prime accused in the case.

Defence Claims False Implication, Cites Lack Of Evidence And Long Custody

Advocate Abhay Kumar, representing Bishnoi, argued before the court that authorities had falsely implicated his client. He told the bench that investigators named Bishnoi in the Moose Wala murder case while he was already in custody in another case. According to the defence, the charges were based solely on a confessional statement and there was no independent evidence directly linking him to the crime. The defence further pointed out that the case involves nearly 180 prosecution witnesses and the trial is expected to take considerable time to conclude. Kumar submitted that Bishnoi had already spent more than three and a half years in jail without the trial reaching a decisive stage.

Counsel appearing for co-accused Jagtar Singh also argued that his client had no active role in the alleged conspiracy. The lawyer told the court that Singh was merely a neighbour and was wrongly accused of helping conduct reconnaissance ahead of the attack. Both Bishnoi and Singh had earlier approached the Supreme Court after the Punjab and Haryana High Court rejected their bail petitions. The top court, after considering the arguments from both sides, concluded that the circumstances justified granting bail to the two accused.

Supreme Court: Sidhu Moose Wala Murder Case Trial Still Ongoing

The trial in the case is still ongoing, with several accused yet to face final adjudication as authorities continue to pursue those allegedly involved in planning and executing the attack.
