Speeding Mercedes Hits Chandigarh Roundabout, Damages Structure

The car’s airbags deployed instantly and protected the driver from serious injuries. Officials confirmed that the driver escaped unhurt, but the Mercedes sustained heavy front-end damage. The collision also damaged the roundabout structure, prompting the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation to begin an immediate assessment of the site.

Police Launch Investigation on Mercedes Driver, Locals demand Stricter Rules

Police rushed to the scene after residents reported the loud crash. They launched an investigation and started reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding cameras to understand the sequence of events. Early findings suggest that the driver was over speeding and failed to control the vehicle at the curve.

The authorities confirmed that they had not yet registered an FIR but were considering legal action depending on the outcome of the inquiry. They also plan to estimate the cost of damage to public infrastructure.

This crash follows a string of similar high-speed incidents in and around Chandigarh. Last month, a Mercedes-Benz with a Chandigarh registration was involved in a hit-and-run accident in Dehradun, which killed four people. That case triggered a public outcry and increased scrutiny on reckless luxury car drivers.

Residents near Matka Chowk have demanded stricter speed regulations and the installation of speed-breakers or surveillance cameras. They urged the administration to enforce tighter controls, especially during late-night hours when most of these high-speed accidents occur.

Chandigarh Traffic Police confirmed that they would increase patrolling and consider setting up automated speed monitors near accident-prone roundabouts to curb such incidents in the future.
