Sonipat Pitbull Attack: 6-Month-Old Critical After Dog Mauling, CCTV Captures Incident

A six-month-old infant suffered serious injuries after a pitbull attacked the child in Sikka Colony, Sonipat, Haryana. The incident occurred when the child’s aunt was carrying the baby through a street. According to the CCTV footage, the dog suddenly rushed towards them and grabbed the infant. The woman tried to protect the child but the animal also attacked her. The shocking incident has caused concern among local residents.

Pit Bull Attacks Infant In Sonipat

The CCTV footage captured the terrifying sequence as the dog continued attacking the infant despite attempts to stop it. The woman struggled to free the child while other people tried to intervene. During the attack, the baby fell onto the road, after which the dog dragged the infant for some distance. The attack left the child with severe injuries. The family took the infant for medical treatment, and doctors referred the child to a hospital in Rohtak.

The incident has raised concerns about safety measures followed by dog owners in residential areas. Residents have questioned whether the owner took adequate precautions while keeping the pit bull at home. No complaint had been filed at the time of the report. The attack has also renewed discussions about regulations governing the ownership of breeds considered potentially dangerous. Authorities may face questions over enforcement of existing local rules.

Incident Raises Questions Over Pet Dog Regulations

A similar incident occurred in Delhi’s Vinay Enclave last year, when a six-year-old child suffered multiple injuries after a pit bull attack. The child also lost part of the right ear in the incident. Police later arrested the dog’s owner in connection with an attempted murder case. Such incidents have continued to draw attention to public safety and responsible pet ownership. They have also prompted discussions about stricter precautions in residential neighbourhoods.

Pit bulls remain legal as pets in many parts of India, as the country does not have a uniform nationwide ban on the breed. However, some municipal authorities have introduced local restrictions on keeping certain breeds. Ghaziabad and Chandigarh, for instance, have restrictions covering pit bulls, Rottweilers and other breeds classified by local authorities as ferocious. The Sonipat incident has once again brought the issue of pet ownership rules into focus. Authorities and residents continue to discuss measures aimed at preventing similar attacks.
