Police arrested Shivam Mishra, son of local tobacco businessman K.K. Mishra, on Thursday (February 12, 2026) in connection with the high-profile Lamborghini crash on VIP Road in Kanpur that injured several people earlier this week, officials said.
The luxury Lamborghini Revuelto, valued at over ₹10 crore, rammed into pedestrians and multiple vehicles in the upscale Gwaltoli area around 3 p.m. on Sunday (February 8). According to police, CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts suggest the car was speeding before the collision.
Commissioner of Police Raghubir Lal confirmed the arrest, stating, “He has been arrested and will be presented before the court.” Authorities took Shivam Mishra into custody from a hospital in Delhi, where he was reportedly undergoing treatment for a medical condition claimed by his family. Officials immediately transported the 35-year-old to Kanpur to produce him before a court.

Police cite evidence against Shivam Mishra but court rejects
The arrest came a day after a man named Mohan Lal approached a local court claiming that he, not Shivam Mishra, was driving the car at the time of the crash. However, the court rejected his surrender plea after police asserted that evidence clearly identified Shivam Mishra as the driver.
Initially, police named an “unidentified driver” in the FIR. After reviewing preliminary evidence, they amended the FIR to include Shivam Mishra as the accused.Mohd Taufeeq, an 18-year-old e-rickshaw driver injured in the crash, filed a complaint in the case. Later, counsel for the accused claimed that Taufeeq was not interested in pursuing legal action.Videos circulating on social media appear to show private security personnel pulling a man believed to be Mishra from the driver’s seat immediately after the accident and escorting him away in another SUV.
While police maintain that their investigation points to Shivam Mishra as the driver, his father and legal team insist that a hired driver was behind the wheel. They claim that Mishra suffered a medical episode during the ride and that a possible technical fault in the vehicle may have contributed to the crash. Officials said investigators will examine these claims through medical and forensic evaluations.
The incident has sparked widespread public scrutiny, with many social media users alleging preferential treatment and delayed police action in the case.
