Punjab: Bus Falls into Drain in Bathinda, 8 Dead

The accident took place near Jiwan Singh Wala village in Bathinda when a bus plunged into a drain after colliding with a bridge. A rescue operation is currently in progress.

At least eight people lost their lives in a bus accident in Bathinda, Punjab, on Friday, as confirmed by Bathinda Urban MLA Jagroop Singh Gill.

He stated that five people died on the spot, while three others succumbed to severe injuries during treatment.

When MLA Jagroop Singh Gill visited Shaheed Bhai Mani Singh Civil Hospital in Bathinda, where 18 injured passengers are being treated, he was briefed by Bathinda’s civil surgeon, Dr. Ramandeep Singla.

“Five people died on the spot, while three others passed away due to severe injuries during treatment.

Around 18 individuals are receiving care at Shaheed Bhai Mani Singh Civil Hospital. Health officials have been directed to provide the necessary treatment,” Gill informed HT.

The accident took place near Jiwan Singh Wala village in Bathinda, where a bus plunged into a drain after crashing into a bridge.

A rescue operation is ongoing with assistance from the NDRF, police, and local residents.

The private bus was traveling from Talwandi Sabo to Bathinda city when it lost control and fell into a drain. Senior civil and police officials are present at the scene to oversee the rescue operations.

The district authorities have not yet confirmed the identities of the deceased.

Rainy Weather at the Time of Accident: Investigation Underway

District officials stated that it was raining in Bathinda at the time of the accident, and they will investigate the cause of the incident.

Bathinda Deputy Commissioner Showkat Ahmad Parray stated that immediately after the accident, villagers hurried to the scene and were able to save lives.

Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact number of people who were on board.

Immediately after the accident, district officials, including DC Parray and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amneet Kondal, quickly arrived at the scene.
