Yamuna Expressway Bus Fire: FIR Says Driver Ignored Passengers’ Warnings and Refused to Stop

An FIR alleges serious negligence by the driver and conductor after a bus caught fire. Passengers reportedly smelled burning after the bus crossed the 33-kilometre milestone on the Yamuna Expressway.

They allegedly informed the driver and conductor, but the bus continued moving without immediate stoppage. According to the FIR, passengers later saw flames emerging near the driver’s seat area inside. Smoke quickly spread throughout the bus, trapping several passengers inside the burning sleeper coach there. The complaint alleges that the driver and cleaner continued smoking despite passengers raising their objections. Passengers objected to smoking inside, but the driver and conductor allegedly laughed and threatened them.

Passengers and Driver Rescued as Police Probe Bus Fire and Compensation for Victims

The FIR alleges that both officials failed to ensure passenger safety during the emergency situation. Police arrested the driver and cleaner while investigating whether the engine started the deadly blaze. The Raj Kalpana Travels bus carried registration number BR32PA8647, according to the formal written complaint. The bus reportedly travelled from Delhi’s Kashmere Gate toward Agra when the incident occurred Wednesday. Police said the bus headed toward Bihar, carrying thirty to thirty-five passengers at the time. Several passengers suffered severe burns and received treatment at Kailash Hospital in Jewar for injuries.

According to the FIR, doctors at Kailash Hospital declared nine passengers dead after admission there. The fire destroyed passengers’ bags, mobile phones, and other personal belongings inside the burning bus. Police handed the investigation to Inspector Ajay Kumar Singh following the deadly overnight incident there. Rescue teams reportedly evacuated thirty passengers after the bus caught fire near Jewar police station. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced compensation of two lakh rupees for each deceased passenger’s family. He also announced fifty thousand rupees for passengers who suffered injuries during the fire incident. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to support victims and ensure proper treatment for them.
