A massive fire broke out in a residential building in Noida’s Phase-3 area on Wednesday, killing two people and triggering a large-scale rescue operation. Police suspect that sparks from an electric vehicle battery being charged on the ground floor started the blaze. The incident occurred on July 15 in a G+4 residential building located in Gali No. 2 of Mamura, which falls under the Phase-3 police station limits. According to the preliminary investigation, the EV battery caught fire during charging and produced sparks that allegedly reached nearby petrol-powered vehicles. The vehicles quickly caught fire, allowing the flames to spread rapidly across the lower portion of the building. Thick smoke soon filled several floors and created panic among residents.
EV Battery Sparks Suspected Behind Deadly Noida Building Fire
The Fire Service immediately dispatched seven fire tenders, a hydraulic platform, and senior fire officials to the scene. The Chief Fire Officer also reached the location to supervise firefighting and rescue operations. Local police teams joined firefighters and helped evacuate residents from different floors of the smoke-filled building. Around 50 families reportedly lived inside the residential complex when the fire broke out. Heavy smoke and flames near the lower floors made the evacuation extremely challenging for rescue teams. Firefighters used available equipment and the hydraulic platform to reach residents who could not safely leave through regular exits. Police personnel also guided families toward safer areas and helped prevent panic during the emergency. Despite the dangerous conditions, rescue teams successfully evacuated all families trapped inside the building.
Although rescue teams safely evacuated the families, two residents suffered serious health complications after inhaling large amounts of smoke. Emergency workers immediately shifted both victims to the District Hospital in ambulances for medical treatment. However, doctors declared them dead after examining their condition at the hospital. Police identified the deceased as one man and one woman, while officials completed the necessary legal formalities following their deaths. Authorities sent both bodies for post-mortem examinations to determine the exact medical cause of death. Investigators believe that smoke inhalation may have caused their conditions to deteriorate rapidly during the fire. Meanwhile, rescue teams checked the entire building to ensure that no other residents remained trapped or required immediate medical assistance.

Two Residents Die After Suffering Severe Smoke Inhalation
Following the incident, police registered an FIR against the building owner or leaseholder under relevant legal provisions for alleged negligence. Officers also took the accused into custody and started further legal proceedings in connection with the deadly fire. Investigators are examining whether the property owner followed mandatory fire safety requirements while operating the residential building. Authorities are also checking whether the building had adequate firefighting equipment, emergency exits, and other safety arrangements required under existing regulations. Police officials will investigate the circumstances surrounding the charging of the electric vehicle battery on the ground floor. They will also determine whether charging the battery in the parking area violated prescribed safety guidelines or created an avoidable fire hazard. Investigators may question residents and other witnesses to establish the sequence of events before the blaze.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to establish the exact cause of the fire and determine how quickly the flames spread through the building. Forensic experts will examine evidence collected from the ground floor, including the suspected electric vehicle battery and damaged vehicles. The Fire Department will also conduct a separate investigation and submit its findings regarding the possible source of the blaze. Officials have not yet confirmed whether the EV battery directly caused the fire, as the preliminary investigation only points toward it as a possible trigger. Investigators will rely on forensic evidence and technical examination before reaching a final conclusion. Authorities will also assess the building’s overall fire safety compliance and identify any lapses that may have increased the severity of the incident.
