A 22-year-old man lost his life after falling from a building while flying a kite, and three others were injured by kite strings in separate incidents in Nagpur, Maharashtra, according to the police on Wednesday.
A woman, who was among the injured, suffered disfiguring cuts to her face due to the sharp ‘manja’ (kite string), they said.
The incidents took place during the Makar Sankranti celebrations on Tuesday.

Sohel Khan Salim Khan, a man from Gittikhadan, was flying a kite on the roof of a building when he fell, as the roof lacked a parapet wall and he failed to notice the risk. He sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Mayo Hospital, where he later died. The police have filed a case of accidental death.
In separate incidents, a woman constable was injured by a nylon kite string, which slashed her face on Wardha Road, requiring stitches. Another 35-year-old woman suffered severe facial injuries from kite string while traveling on Mankapur bridge, necessitating surgery. Additionally, a 22-year-old man fell from his motorbike after it got caught in a kite string near Narendra Nagar, resulting in injury, police said.
