High-Speed Collision Leaves Seven Dead in Uttara Kannada
The accident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. near Balagara Cross in the Arabail Ghat stretch under the Yellapur Police Station limits. Officials said the multi-utility vehicle (MUV) was carrying nine occupants, including the driver. The group was travelling from Dharwad to Dharmasthala and Chikkamagaluru when the fatal collision took place. Police secured the accident site and began collecting evidence to determine the exact sequence of events.
According to the preliminary investigation, the driver, identified as Sanjeev, allegedly drove the vehicle at a high speed and lost control. Investigators believe he crossed into the opposite lane, where the MUV crashed into an oncoming lorry travelling from Ankola. The powerful impact severely damaged the car, leaving several passengers trapped inside. Rescue personnel worked quickly to pull the victims from the wreckage.

Police Investigating Cause of Fatal Highway Accident
Police continue to investigate the incident and are examining all possible factors, including overspeeding and reckless driving. Authorities have not ruled out additional causes and are gathering witness statements and technical evidence. The condition of the two injured passengers remains critical as doctors continue their treatment at KIMS Hospital. Officials urged motorists to exercise caution, especially while driving through hilly highway stretches during the night.
In a separate road accident in Jaipur earlier this week, three children lost their lives after a speeding truck rammed into a roadside balloon seller. The truck broke through an iron railing before hitting children standing near a roadside drain, causing them to fall into it. Two other people also sustained injuries in the incident. Police reached the spot immediately and launched rescue and relief operations while investigating the circumstances behind the crash.
