The Kanchanjungha Express, heading for Sealdah, collided with a goods train on Monday morning close to New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal, resulting in five fatalities and at least twenty-five injuries. The train derailed in two coaches.

According to Abhishek Roy, Additional SP Kurseong, “five people, including the driver of the Kanchanjunga Express, died on the spot while 25 were injured.” He stated that the cops were attempting to free the stranded.

Banerjee Assures Swift Action as Rescue Teams Rush to Darjeeling Train Crash Site
Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister, expressed her dismay at the tragedy on X and said that rescue and relief efforts were in progress. “Shocked to hear of the fatal train disaster that occurred in the Darjeeling district’s Phansidewa area just now. A cargo train is said to have struck the Kanchanjungha Express; further information is pending. For rescue, recovery, and medical support, DM, SP, physicians, ambulances, and disaster teams have been hurried to the scene. Banerjee declared, “Action on a war footing was initiated.”
The 13174 Kanchanjungha Express from Agartala and a goods train were involved in a collision at 9 am near Rangapani, near the New Jalpaiguri station, according to PTI.

Since the morning, it has been pouring strongly in Siliguri, which has affected the rescue efforts. The primary rail connection between Kolkata and Siliguri is the line where the tragedy occurred. Long-distance train services have been temporarily discontinued as a result.
