The death toll in the Jalgaon train accident has risen to 13 after police discovered a headless body along the railway tracks on Thursday.
Out of the 13 victims, authorities have identified eight individuals, including two through their Aadhar cards, according to Special Inspector General of Police Dattatraya Karale, as reported by PTI.
The accident occurred on Wednesday when passengers aboard the Mumbai-bound Pushpak Express disembarked onto adjacent tracks following an alarm chain-pulling incident. They were subsequently struck by the Karnataka Express, which was traveling from Bengaluru to Delhi.

Jalgaon Train Accident: Investigation and Compensation Details
The Commissioner of Railway Safety, Central Circle, will investigate the circumstances leading to the mowing down of the 13 passengers, according to the PTI report.
Manoj Arora, CRS, Central Circle, said he will reach the accident site on Thursday between Pardhade and Maheji railway stations near Pachora, over 400 km from Mumbai, on Thursday.
The Railway Ministry has announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 1.5 lakh each to the families of the deceased Rs 50,000 to those with serious injuries and Rs 5,000 for people who sustained minor wounds.
The Maharashtra government has also announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the next of the kin of deceased and free medical treatment for the injured.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolence to the families of the deceased and wished for speedy recovery of the injured.
“Anguished by the tragic accident on the railway tracks in Jalgaon, Maharashtra. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of all the injured. Authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected,” said the Prime Minister’s Office in a post on X.
