IndiGo Flight Incident Raises Safety Concerns

A recent IndiGo flight from Ayodhya to Delhi sparked safety concerns after a passenger alleged a close call due to fuel shortage. Flight 6E2702 encountered adverse weather conditions in Delhi and diverted to Chandigarh, landing with minimal fuel reserves. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Satish Kumar recounted the harrowing experience, stating that after two unsuccessful landing attempts in Delhi, the pilot announced a diversion to Chandigarh. Passengers, including crew members, reportedly experienced panic, with some even vomiting.

Kumar revealed that the pilot initially informed passengers of 45 minutes of holding fuel before deciding to divert. However, the diversion to Chandigarh occurred 75 minutes after the initial announcement, raising concerns about fuel management adequacy. Kumar’s social media post tagged relevant aviation authorities, questioning adherence to SOPs and highlighting the potential danger.

Debate Over Safety Protocols Ensues After IndiGo Flight Incident

Retired pilot Shakti Lumba labeled the incident a “gross safety violation” and called for a thorough investigation by the DGCA. Lumba stressed the necessity of immediate diversion after two missed approaches, suggesting that prolonged holding could endanger passengers and crew.

Despite discrepancies in eyewitness accounts and Flightradar data showing one missed approach, IndiGo defended its actions. They stated that the go-around maneuver was standard procedure and that the aircraft always maintained sufficient fuel reserves for diversion as per regulations.
