New Year celebrations in Hyderabad took a tragic turn after a 53-year-old man died and more than a dozen people fell ill, prompting police to investigate suspected food poisoning and the consumption of spurious liquor.
One Dead, Several Hospitalised After New Year Party in Hyderabad
The incident occurred on New Year’s Eve at the Bhavani Nagar Association Committee Hall in Jagadgiri Gutta under the Quthbullapur police limits, where 17 people had gathered. The group consumed alcohol and later ate food, including chicken biryani, fish curry and rotis, prepared at the venue.
Shortly after the meal, all participants complained of illness. One of them, identified as Pandu (53), died while undergoing treatment.

Senior police officials, including Balanagar Assistant Commissioner of Police Naresh Reddy and Jeedimetla Circle Inspector Gaddam Mallesh, visited the hospitals to assess the situation.
“We are probing the incident from both angles — possible food poisoning and consumption of adulterated liquor.
