Gurugram Hit-and-Run Accused Kalyan Bainsla Arrested, Attempt to Murder Charge Invoked

Gurugram Police arrested Kalyan Bainsla on Tuesday for allegedly hitting a woman sports bike rider on Golf Course Road and fleeing the scene. Police traced Bainsla to the Dausa area of Rajasthan after identifying him as a resident of Palwal. The police formed three teams to track him down and successfully arrested him. Officers also detained Lavnish Bainsla, Kalyan’s cousin, who allegedly accompanied him during the incident. Police are now questioning Lavnish to determine exactly what role he played in the case. The car involved in the crash belonged to one of Bainsla’s friends, according to Gurugram DCP (East) Sandeep Kumar.

CCTV Footage Prompts Police to Add Attempt-to-Murder Charge

Police examined CCTV footage of the crash and decided to invoke an attempt-to-murder charge against Bainsla. The offence carries a provision for imprisonment of up to 10 years. DCP Sandeep Kumar said investigators first established Bainsla’s connection to Palwal before tracking him to Rajasthan. Police teams then located and arrested him near Dausa. Officers have also started questioning the other person who allegedly travelled with Bainsla at the time of the incident. Police said they will share more details as the investigation progresses and officers establish the full sequence of events.

The crash occurred on Sunday when Bainsla allegedly drove a white sedan sharply to the left on Golf Course Road and hit Sia, who was riding an Aprilia RS 457 sports bike. CCTV footage captured the impact and showed Sia, who wore a helmet, falling onto the road while her motorcycle slid across the surface and produced sparks. The driver did not stop after the collision and instead fled the area. Sia later described the incident as a clear hit-and-run and said the driver should have stopped to check whether she had suffered serious injuries.

Sia Challenges Accused’s Claim of Sympathy

Before police arrested him, Bainsla gave a media interview from an undisclosed location and claimed that he did not know whether the rider was a man or a woman. He also argued that the public had only seen one side of the incident and questioned why videos involving one of Sia’s male friends had not surfaced. Bainsla said he felt sorry for Sia after the crash. Sia strongly challenged that statement and pointed to his decision to flee. She said that someone who genuinely felt concerned about an injured person would have stopped and checked on the victim instead of driving away.

Sia said the crash could have caused much more serious injuries and could even have killed her. She questioned why Bainsla did not stop for even a moment after hitting her. Her father, Rohshan Chauhan, has also demanded strict punishment and said the family will not rest until authorities hold the accused accountable. Police will now question Bainsla and his cousin, examine the CCTV footage and establish the events before and after the collision. Investigators will also determine whether the second person played any role in the hit-and-run.
