Four Indian medical students drowned in a river near St. Petersburg, Russia. The Indian missions in the country are working with Russian authorities to expedite the return of their bodies to their families. The students, aged 18-20, included two boys and two girls, all studying at Novgorod State University in Veliky Novgorod.
According to local media, the incident occurred when a female Indian student waded into the river Volkhov and encountered difficulties. Her four companions attempted to rescue her, but tragically, all of them drowned.

Consulate works to return Indian medical students
In their attempt to rescue her, three other students also drowned in the river. A third boy was saved by local residents. The Embassy of India in Moscow posted on X, stating, “We are working to send the bodies to the relatives as soon as possible. Proper treatment is also being provided to the student whose life has been saved.”
The Consulate General added that it is collaborating with local authorities in Veliky Novgorod to expedite the return of the mortal remains to the families. “The bereaved families have been contacted and assured of all possible assistance,” it stated.
