Flipkart delivery worker shifts stance on Noida techie rescue

Moninder, a Flipkart delivery worker who said he tried to save 26-year-old software engineer Yuvraj Mehta, has changed his version of events surrounding the night Yuvraj drowned in a water-filled excavation pit at a construction site in Noida’s Sector 150.

Yuvraj died after his car crashed through a damaged boundary wall and plunged into the flooded pit amid heavy fog. In his first statement to the media, Moninder accused the police, SDRF and fire brigade of standing by for nearly two hours as Yuvraj cried for help from the roof of his partially submerged car.

Moninder Flipkart delivery worker earlier claimed the accident occurred around midnight and that Yuvraj kept shouting for help for nearly 90 minutes. He alleged that rescue personnel refused to enter the water, citing cold conditions and the possible presence of steel reinforcement bars. Moninder said he reached the site around 1.45 am, found rescue teams waiting with ladders, and decided to attempt the rescue himself by tying a rope around his waist and entering the pit. He said he searched for nearly half an hour but could not locate either Yuvraj or the car and left the site around 5.30 am.

Second version sharply contradicts first Noida Flipkart techie case

In a later statement released through a self-recorded video circulated online, Moninder presented a markedly different account. He said the police reached the spot within 15 minutes of the accident and that he arrived shortly after them. In the video, he claimed the police and rescue agencies acted promptly, with SDRF, NDRF and the fire brigade arriving on time and making every effort to save Yuvraj. According to this version, poor visibility due to dense fog delayed the rescue, but teams eventually managed to retrieve both Yuvraj and the car from the water.

The stark contrast between the two narratives has drawn attention, especially since the second version was not given in response to questions from journalists or investigators but was instead released as a standalone video.

Earlier reporting by The Indian Express stated that Yuvraj had managed to climb out of his car and stood on its roof for nearly two hours, shouting for help before he drowned. The report quoted police officials as saying they hesitated to enter the water because the pit appeared to be part of an excavation site that could contain submerged iron rods.

Moninder had also told the newspaper that accidents had occurred earlier at the same spot. He said he had helped rescue a truck driver from Ludhiana who fell into the same ditch two weeks before Yuvraj’s death on another foggy night, pointing to the lack of reflectors and safety measures in the area.

Following the incident, the Uttar Pradesh government removed Noida Authority CEO Lokesh M from his post and placed him on a waitlist. Greater Noida Police registered an FIR against Wiztown Planners Private Limited and Lotus Greens Construction Private Limited, invoking charges including culpable homicide, causing death by negligence, and endangering life.

While Lotus Greens said it had no role as the plot had been transferred years ago, Wiztown claimed the land was already excavated and that the project had stalled due to withheld permissions from the Noida Authority. The case has triggered widespread public outrage, with many holding local authorities and the state government responsible for negligence.
