Fireworks explosion at Kerala temple injures over 150 in Kasaragod

A devastating fireworks explosion at the Theru Anjootambalam Veererkavu temple. In Nileshwaram, Kasaragod district, Kerala, has left over 150 people injured, with eight in critical condition. The incident occurred around 12:20 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. During the Vellatam Theyyam ritual, a popular local tradition attended by large crowds, including women and children.

According to reports, the firecrackers, stored on temple grounds. Were ignited by stray sparks from the ongoing fireworks display, triggering a massive explosion. The unsuspecting crowd, who had gathered to witness the ritual. Found themselves caught in the blast, which caused extensive injuries and panic. Immediate assistance was provided to the victims at the Kasaragod District Hospital, where many were initially treated for various injuries.
