5 Killed, 30 Injured as Bus Collides with Truck and Plunges into Drain in Faridkot

Five people were killed, and 30 others were injured when a bus collided head-on with a truck and fell into a drain in Punjab’s Faridkot on Tuesday morning.

The bus, owned by Gidderbaha MLA Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon’s New Deep Transports company, was carrying 35 passengers. It was traveling from Muktsar to Amritsar when the tragic accident took place on a bridge near the Shahi Haveli area. Authorities and rescue teams rushed to the scene to assist the injured and manage the situation.

Bus-Truck Collision and Recent Road Accidents in Punjab

Faridkot Senior Superintendent of Police Pragya Jain said the bus collided head-on with the truck, broke through the bridge railing, and plunged into the drain. She noted that both vehicles were apparently speeding, which may have caused the accident. Authorities will conduct an investigation. She also mentioned that doctors referred two patients for arm amputations to Government Medical College and Hospital, Amritsar, while the others were admitted to a hospital in Faridkot.

After the accident, local residents immediately sprang into action, jumping into the drain to rescue some of the injured passengers. Their prompt response saved several lives before police personnel arrived and joined the rescue efforts. Authorities worked swiftly to manage the situation and provide necessary assistance, according to sources. Faridkot Deputy Commissioner Vineet Kumar assured that local hospitals are providing free medical treatment to all the injured.
