Seven-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Water-Logged Park Puddle in Delhi

A seven-year-old boy named Tarun drowned in a puddle created by waterlogging following heavy rainfall at a DDA park in Rohini, Delhi. The tragic incident occurred in Sector-20, Rohini. Within the jurisdiction of the Aman Vihar police, on Friday evening at 6:30 PM. Upon receiving reports, the police arrived at the scene and transported the boy to the hospita. Where he was unfortunately pronounced dead by doctors.

Delhi: Seven-Year-Old Tarun Drowns in Waterlogged Park in Rohini

A seven-year-old boy named Tarun drowned in a puddle formed by waterlogging following heavy rainfall at a DDA park in Rohini, Delhi. The incident took place in Sector-20, Rohini, within the jurisdiction of the Aman Vihar police, on Friday evening at 6:30 PM. Despite immediate response from the police and transport to the hospital, the boy was pronounced dead by doctors. Tarun, a Class 6 student, lived in Aman Vihar. His father works at a garment shop, and his mother is a housewife.

Park Conditions and Safety Concerns

The district park near Chhat Ghat, covering 12 acres, had become inundated, forming a pond where concrete benches were submerged. The water body was fenced with a grill and warnings were issued to keep people away. However, 7-8 children, including Tarun, ignored these warnings. The boy’s body was discovered by a park guard.

Family’s Outcry and Blame

Jaswant Singh, a relative of Tarun, told the Times of India that the family was unaware the boy had gone to the park. He criticized the district authorities for failing to address glaring oversights, including inadequate warnings and lack of supervision. Singh described the incident as a result of “utter apathy and negligence,” which led to the tragic loss of the young boy’s life.
