CCTV Captures Exact Moment Delhi’s Satya Niketan Building Collapses; Death Toll Rises to Six

New Delhi: A five-storey building housing a boys’ paying guest accommodation collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan on Sunday afternoon. The 50-year-old structure stood in a congested lane near Delhi University’s South Campus area.

The sudden collapse killed six people and trapped several others beneath the massive pile of debris. The densely populated neighbourhood witnessed a major rescue operation following the building’s sudden structural failure. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force, Delhi Fire Services, and Delhi Police reached quickly. Other emergency agencies also joined the operation and began searching through the heavy rubble. CCTV cameras captured the exact moment when the building suddenly collapsed within a few seconds.

CCTV Captures Narrow Escape as Rescue Operation Uncovers More Victims

The footage showed the structure giving way before a massive cloud of dust covered the area. Another CCTV camera captured a shopkeeper making a narrow escape moments before the building collapsed. The man sat outside his shop when the structure suddenly began falling without warning. He immediately noticed the danger and rushed away as dust rapidly engulfed the surroundings. Rescue teams later continued their overnight operation while searching for people trapped under debris. During the operation, rescuers pulled another person from the rubble but could not save him. Authorities confirmed that rescuers had successfully recovered 12 people from the collapsed building. However, six people lost their lives during the devastating incident, officials said.

The tragedy has raised serious questions about safety standards governing paying guest accommodations across Delhi. It has also highlighted concerns about construction practices and safety enforcement in crowded neighbourhoods. The Delhi government ordered a magisterial inquiry following an on-site review of the collapse. Officials also directed Delhi Police to register a case against those allegedly responsible. Police subsequently registered an FIR against PG owner Hariram and other alleged persons involved. Authorities alleged that renovation work on the ground floor may have triggered the building’s collapse. Police invoked several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the accused following preliminary findings. Multiple police teams are now searching for the alleged persons connected with the incident. The government has promised strict action against anyone found responsible for the fatal collapse. Officials said authorities would hold those responsible fully accountable under the law.
