Delhi-NCR earthquake live updates: ‘Strong’ tremors from 4.0 magnitude quake rattle Delhi, Noida residents

Delhi NCR experienced earthquake tremors on Monday morning, with the National Center for Seismology (NCS) reporting a magnitude of 4.0. According to the NCS, the earthquake struck New Delhi at a depth of five kilometers. The tremors were recorded at 5:36 AM, as reported by the agency.

PM Modi Urges Calm as Tremors Shake Delhi NCR

Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X, stating that Delhi and nearby areas experienced tremors and assuring that authorities are staying alert for any aftershocks. “Tremors shook Delhi and nearby areas. I urge everyone to stay calm, follow safety precautions, and remain alert for possible aftershocks. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation,” he said

Leaders and Public React as Delhi Police Shares Emergency Helpline

Users on micro-blogging platform X shared their reactions, including political leaders from both BJP and Congress, who described the tremors as “strong.” Delhi Police posted on X, urging residents to stay safe and providing an emergency contact for assistance. “We hope you all are safe, Delhi! For any emergency help #Dial112. #Earthquake,” they wrote.

Epicentre Identified Near Dhaula Kuan; Area Prone to Mild Quakes

An official told PTI that the earthquake struck near Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education in Dhaula Kuan. The area, which has a nearby lake, experiences smaller, low-magnitude quakes every two to three years. In 2015, it recorded a 3.3 magnitude earthquake, the official said. He added that people also heard a loud sound when the earthquake hit.

The strong tremors forced residents of several high-rise buildings in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad to rush outside. A woman in her 50s, who was on a morning walk in E Block of Noida Sector 20, said, “We were walking in the park, so we didn’t feel it strongly. But it was quite strong, and people came rushing out.”
