Chennai: A doctor, his wife, and two sons were found dead at their Anna Nagar home. Police suspect financial issues led to suicide.
Dr. Balamurugan, a 52-year-old sonologist, and his 47-year-old lawyer wife, Sumathy, were found hanging in their home. Their two sons, Jaswant Kumar, a NEET aspirant, and Lingesh Kumar, a Class 11 student, were also discovered dead in separate rooms. The tragic incident has shocked the local community, and authorities are investigating the possible reasons behind their deaths.

Dr. Balamurugan, who operated multiple ultrasound centers in the city, was reportedly burdened with heavy debt.
This morning, the doctor’s driver became suspicious when repeated knocks on the door went unanswered. Concerned, he alerted the police, who arrived at the residence and discovered the lifeless bodies of Dr. Balamurugan, his wife Sumathy, and their two sons in separate rooms.

Doctor’s Family Suicide: Police Probe Financial Distress and Possible Harassment
“We suspect this to be a case of suicide due to financial distress. The family was reportedly struggling with a huge debt. However, the investigation is still ongoing, and no formal complaint has been received from anyone yet,” a police officer stated.
Authorities are also trying to determine whether the family left behind a suicide note or faced harassment from money lenders. Further inquiries are underway to establish the exact circumstances leading to the tragic incident.
