Muzaffar Zargar, the medical superintendent of Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital, confirmed that a boat capsized in the Jhelum River in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning, resulting in four fatalities and three injuries. Additionally, there are concerns about several individuals who are feared to be missing following the incident. Locals reported that several school children were onboard the boat. The incident occurred due to the high flow of the river caused by the continuous rainfall over the past few days.
Heavy rain caused the water levels in the river to swell, impacting the boat carrying over 20 people, mostly children. Despite the efforts, only 10 passengers have been successfully rescued, while 10 others remain missing. ANI reported that the Disaster Management department of J&K has deployed an SDRF team to conduct the rescue operation.
