Nearly 23 years after the killing of Ramavatar Jaggi, the Chhattisgarh High Court on Thursday convicted Amit Jogi, son of former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, in the case and ordered him to surrender within three weeks, according to the CBI’s counsel.
A Raipur trial court had earlier acquitted Amit Jogi in 2007. He currently heads the Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (J), a party established by his late father Last month, the High Court revived the 2003 case following Supreme Court of India directions on a Central Bureau of Investigation appeal.In November, the court noted delayed CBI plea but said allegations against Amit Jogi involved a serious conspiracy to murder rival leader.

Amit Jogi Convicted, Calls Verdict Unjust
The Chhattisgarh High Court has overturned the acquittal of Amit Jogi and convicted him in the Ramavatar Jaggi murder case, directing him to surrender within three weeks.A division bench comprising Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Arvind Kumar Verma passed the order, CBI counsel Vaibhav A Goverdhan said. Reacting to the verdict, Amit Jogi termed the decision unjust and claimed that the court declared him guilty without giving him an opportunity to present his side. In a post on X, he expressed disappointment that the court reversed his earlier acquittal without a proper hearing.He, however, said he has full faith in the judicial system and will approach the Supreme Court of India, hoping justice will ultimately prevail.
Meanwhile, Satish Jaggi welcomed the High Court’s decision, calling it a victory of truth. On Hanuman Jayanti, he said their 20-year struggle paid off and the verdict restored his faith in judiciary.
2003 Jaggi Murder Case: From Acquittal to Supreme Court-Ordered Review
Gunmen shot dead Ramavatar Jaggi in Raipur on June 4, 2003, during Ajit Jogi tenure as chief minister. He was a close associate of former NCP state chief VC Shukla. State police first investigated before transferring the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation, and a Raipur court convicted 28 accused in 2007 but acquitted Amit Jogi. Courts earlier dismissed subsequent appeals by the CBI and others on technical grounds. In November last year, the Supreme Court of India directed the High Court to reconsider the CBI plea on merits.
