An official reported on Friday that three people, including two women, lost their lives, and nine others were hospitalized after a gas leak caused by a blast in a reactor at a fertiliser plant in Maharashtra’s Sangli district.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 pm on Thursday at the Myanmar Chemical Company in Shalgaon MIDC, Kadegaon tehsil, in the district, according to the official.
Police said a reactor at the fertiliser plant exploded releasing chemical fumes.

12 Hospitalized After Fertiliser Plant Incident
Sangram Shewale, senior inspector of Kadegaon police station, stated, “The gas leak affected 12 people at the unit, who were taken to the hospital. Among them, two women workers and a security guard have died, while nine others are receiving treatment.”
Sangli SP Sandip Ghuge stated that they suspect the leaked gas to be ammonia. Another official reported that they admitted seven injured individuals to Sahyadri Hospital in Karad, with five in the ICU.
The official confirmed that they identified the two women who died as Suchita Uthale (50) from Yetgaon in Sangli district and Neelam Rethrekar (26) from Masur in Satara district.
Both women were working at the fertiliser plant when the gas leak occurred, and despite efforts to provide medical care, they succumbed to their injuries.
The authorities have informed their families and are providing support during this difficult time.
